If you are a Doonite, you can’t agree more that for us, Kalsang is a feeling! In fact, its Jakkhan outlet was one of the first restaurants that became my personal favorite in Dehradun since the time I first explored it in 2013. Definitely, it’s not a fine dining restaurant but you will surely leave this place craving for more, that I guarantee.
I have tried oriental cuisine at other restaurants too but I found the food to be more authentic here. Over the years, they have opened more outlets but I have not tried them yet because I am glued to this particular one at Jakkhan. In fact, I am pretty obsessed with their spicy Cheese Lamen Fried.
And when I went here recently, I combined it with ‘Mixed Vegetable with Almonds’ of which I don’t have a picture. They really go well together. I have also had their appetizing Veg Momos, Mokthuk and Chef’s Vegetable Basket in the past and they were delish.
The only thing that I have still not developed taste for are bamboo shoots so I certainly make sure to never order delicacies containing them at ANY restaurant or I specifically tell them to exclude it from my order altogether.
Whenever you go to Kalsang, you will always find it crowded. This was a very rare day when I had gone at a non-busy hour so as to take some pictures. Otherwise, sometimes you might even have to wait for seats. It is that busy, especially during weekends. We tried booking in advance but they attend you on a first come first serve basis. However, a little waiting period is worth it given the food the restro offers. For desserts, I would suggest you to explore Kalsang Ama Café right below the restaurant. They have some great dessert options and the cafe is much cozier to enjoy your dessert with a cup of coffee or two.
