My husband and I are big time foodies. His work requires us to move and/or travel more than often. And thankfully, this allows us to explore different cuisines and new restaurants quite frequently. But then that too has its own pros and cons. Sometimes you just can’t figure out where to eat in a new place based solely on online reviews. That’s what happened with us when we moved to Jaisalmer. Finding a good restaurant became quite tricky because the shortlisted ones with fancy names did not fancy us at all. Initially we did have a couple of bad experiences trying and testing what to eat and where to eat! Then somebody suggested to us ‘1st Gate Home Fusion’ for good pizzas. Since I was craving for Dominos and KFcs which you will not find here, we did not take time to explore this one!

AMBIENCE

Our first visit was during winters. We went to its rooftop which was quite crowded being the tourist season. We chose to sit closer to the mesmerizing view of the Fort and were offered shawls and angethi to keep ourselves warm. The mood was soothing maybe because of the lights or the soft music or the mesmerizing view of the Jaisalmer Fort in the background. Even though the cold months might get a little too windy to bear with, it’s altogether a different fun to dine in such an ambience.

FOOD

Keeping our fingers crossed, we ordered Mexican pizza, White sauce pasta with anchovies and Oreo Shakes. And here’s the review:

Oreo Shakes – Not too sweet. Not too thin (consistency). Perfect!

Mexican Pizza – This was heavenly. Freshly baked! You can even see them preparing pizzas in their see-through kitchen. We chose this one because it had the regular kind of toppings that we usually have at Dominos or Pizza Hut and, it turned out be addictive.
White Sauce Pasta – We had it made a little spicier as per our taste. The secret ingredient is Fresh Cream, they said. It was rich and delectable.

Cake with Ice-Cream – I guess this was not on the menu. We just asked for it. Warm Cake with Melting Ice-Cream! Do I need to say more?

After this experience, 1st Gate Home Fusion became our staple for dinner in the coming weeks. Mexican Pizza and White Sauce Pasta with Anchovies became our personal favourites. For some strange reason, I like Penne more than Spaghetti for this pasta.

SERVICE

We also tried their Indian Menu which was good as well. We usually judge Indian food by the quality of the bread served (No! We are not weird)! And we loved the naan. It was fresh and soft. Ker Sangri was okayish. We did not find it that appealing. Maybe we are yet to develop the taste for it. The waiter too realized this and came to speak to us. We put our views . And you know what? They did not charge for it at all! Now that’s a sign of a good restaurant where customers are a priority. Some people might find the menu over-priced in comparison to the other restaurants but it is totally worth visiting. Over and all, I am Impressed! In fact, it is the only restaurant where I have been the most, so much so that I have lost the count. Highly Recommended!
